Mercedes-Benz CLS 500 by MEC Design

Lately the new CLS is getting a lot of attention from aftermarket specialists. First, Kicherer gave it a boost in styling and performance, now the CLS 500 has just received a new modification package, with the kit now coming from MEC Design.

This tuning package actually targets the car’s visual appearance mostly, while offering a few light technical modification.

Looking a bit sinister in that matte black, the CLS 500 has an aggressive body kit with modified bumpers with LED fog plus day lights, head light units with a black background finishing, LED mirror covers, a carbon fiber rear diffuser and a trunk-mounted spoiler. Beside these it comprises a suspension lowering module, 20-inch matte black alloy wheels and a sport exhaust with 4 stainless steel end pipes completes the list of exterior mods.

Under the bonnet, we expect both a naturally aspirated and supercharged V6 with power ranging from 275bhp to 350bhp.

A hybrid was also rumoured, but there’s been no official word from the powers that be. Jaguar is clearly aiming at Porsche Boxster and Cayman sales not to mention Lotus too.

The XE is expected to be with us by 2013 with both roadster and coupé bodystyles available.

2012 Lincoln MKT EcoBoost Price Drops $3,000

Lincoln has dropped the price of its top-tier vehicle, the 2012 Lincoln MKT EcoBoost crossover, by $3,000 to $46,295, excluding $875 for destination. That’s the same price as the standard V-6-powered all-wheel-drive MKT from the 2011 model year. The EcoBoost includes a 355-horsepower, twin-turbo V-6 engine and all-wheel drive standard.

Brabus 800HP Mercedes E-Klasse Cabriolet

The aftermarket specialist at Brabus have just released details and photos of what it is claimed to be the most powerful and fastest four-seater cabriolet, a car that is built to order and priced from EUR478,000. Dubbed Brabus E V12 Cabriolet, the project is based on the open-top version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Klasse.


The car comes fitted with the Brabus 800 V12 Biturbo twelve-cylinder high-capacity engine, which is coupled with a five-speed automatic transmission. A stainless-steel high-performance exhaust system with four tailpipes was also created specifically for the E-Klasse Cabriolet.

Performance figures are impressive: the unit develops 800 horsepower and 1,420 Nm (1,047 lb-ft) of torque, limited electronically in the car to 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft). This enables the car to sprint from naught to sixty in just 3.7 seconds. After 9.9 seconds it reaches a speed of 200 km/h (124 mph). The 300 km/h (186 mph) barrier comes after 23.9 seconds. Depending on the final-drive ratio the BRABUS 800 E V12 Cabriolet has a top speed of up to 370 km/h (231 mph).

The high-performance Volkswagen Golf R, the turbocharged successor to the all-out-insane R32, has been confirmed for sale in the U.S. in early 2012.

The information was revealed by Volkswagen’s product and technology communications manager Mark Gillies, who explained that the Golf R was always in the pipeline for the U.S. market and is now in the final stages of compliance procedures.

The news isn’t all rosy, however. U.S. delivered Golf Rs will feature a slightly detuned version of the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine powering the sporty hatch sold in Europe. Though final output figures are yet to be determined, the U.S. market Golf R is expected to deliver around the 250 horsepower mark, which is slightly lower than the 256 horsepower offered overseas. You can blame our stricter EPA regulations and poorer fuel quality for the discrepancy.

Aston V12 Zagato confirmed for production in 2012

Aston Martin has confirmed production of the V12 Zagato – yours for £330,000, plus local taxes. It will build just 150 examples will be hand-built at Gaydon, with first deliveries expected in summer 2012.

An aluminium and carbonfibre body is designed to echo the 1960 DB4 GT Zagato. Ulrich Bez, Aston’s chief exec described the V12 Zagato as ‘the perfect inspiration for the next 50 years of Aston Martin.’

I like the V12 Zagato's styling, but what are the figures?

Aston hasn’t disclosed any performance figures yet but being a V12 Vantage underneath, expect a top speed north of 190mph and 0-60 in around four seconds.

The DBS-derived 6.0-litre V12 kicks out 510bhp and 420lb ft of torque.

The new 2012 Audi TT RS arrives this summer at U.S. dealers, priced from $57,7725 — nearly $20,000 more than the base Audi TT 2.0T, which starts at $39,172. Prices include an $875 shipping charge.

Where the entry-level TT gets a 211-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, the potent RS edition features a turbo 2.5 five-cylinder, rated at 360 hp and 343 pound-feet of torque. The engine drives all four wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox, providing 0-60 acceleration in 4.1 seconds.
